Things To Do In University Heights San Diego

Looking for real estate in San Diego can be challenging. There are so many amazing neighborhoods to choose from, and it can be difficult to decipher which is best for you and your loved ones. It can all come down to which San Diego neighborhood is right for your lifestyle. That is why we wanted to cover things to do in the beautiful University Heights neighborhood. So, let’s get into it.

Fuel Up With Delicious Food

So here’s the thing, if you like good food, you will love University Heights. University Heights San Diego has tons of options for any diet including vegan and vegetarian options. There are too many fantastic places to mention here, but we wanted to point out some must-tries for you. Grains and Plumeria are two fantastic places to take your friends with a vegan or vegetarian diet. Plumeria offers vegetarian Thai dishes and Asian beer, and the flavors will knock your socks off. Grains serves up delicious Thai and Vietnamese-inspired vegan plates with plenty of beer and other spirits to choose from. If you have a mix of vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian in your party, Red House Pizza is the spot for you. They have gluten-free crust, vegan cheeses, and the normal (but ultra-delicious) pizza pie options that you love to love. Just down the street is Pop Pie Co. with gourmet pot pies that will induce a craving for more. And, if you want traditional Thai food, Bahn Thai is the place to be. It is typically busy with a line out the door, but the wait is worth it with flavors that will ignite your palate. And, we would be remiss to leave out one of the best burrito spots in San Diego. You have to swing by El Zarape. They have delicious homemade salsas, burritos for any diet, and a slew of other Mexican dishes for you to fall in love with.

Enjoy The Night Life

After your meal, you have the option to go to any number of bars to enjoy a cocktail or craft beer. Not to be left off of the list is the University Heights staple, The Lancers. This is a cash-only bar that offers you the laid-back, pub-like vibes that you crave when its time to hang out with friends. After a few drinks, walk over to Park & Rec where you can get mouth-watering cocktails and enjoy outdoor games, and the occasional DJ or live band. Kairoa is new in town and has a rooftop deck with views to “wow” you. Here, you can enjoy the famous San Diego craft brew scene and delicious dishes to boot. Small Bar is a community staple, with delicious food, great drinks, and the University Heights vibe that makes this neighborhood so unique.

Shopping Local

It’s important to shop local and support San Diego’s inspiring business leaders. University Heights offers some eclectic local stores to peek around in. Amongst those is Eden, an interiorscape and gift store for everyone on your list. This shop is beautifully curated and has friendly faces to help you with your purchase. You can also find some wonderful vintage threads at La Loupe Vintage or just down the street at Frock You.

Cozy Up In Fabulous Cafes

If you are looking for a cozy cafe to curl up with coffee, some baked goods, and your favorite book, then University Heights San Diego may just be the spot for you. This neighborhood is teeming with cafes. On Park Avenue, you can hang with friends at Meraki Cafe, Lestat’s, or Twiggs. You also won’t be disappointed by the popular brunch (and dinner spot) Parkhouse Eatery. They have tons of delicious options with the perfect mid-day mimosa. Off of Park Ave, you can grab a coffee and freshly cooked breakfast at Mystic Mocha. Whatever your taste is, you will certainly find a daytime hangout spot in University Heights.

Other Things To Do In University Heights

While food and drink are always a great option on a night out, a lot of times we want something else to do. This neighborhood offers up some fantastic options for that as well. Diversionary Theater is a staple of University Heights. It was founded in 1986 to provide a theater for the LGBTQ community. This theater hosts shows that will leave you in awe and they even have extra events that let you go behind the scenes and experience the theater in a whole new way. Just across the street, Twiggs holds a free comedy night called Comedy Heights, where you can catch comedians from Last Comic Standing, the San Diego community, and all over the world.

University Heights has lots to do, and whether or not you decide to call it home, it is a neighborhood that is worth exploring. If you would like to learn more about this neighborhood and homes that are available, contact us! We would love to show you around.
